Lore & Background
The specific playable Vault Hunters for Borderlands 4 are Rafa (the Exo-Soldier), Harlowe (the Gravitar), Amon (the Forgeknight), and Vex (the Siren). The story also features returning NPCs Zane Flynt, Claptrap, Lilith, and Amara. Additional playable hunters include C4$H the Rogue from the first expansion 'Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned', and Loveless the Hacker from the second expansion 'FL4K and the Last Resort'. Unlike previous entries on Pandora or Eden-6, this group operates primarily in Kairos, a world revealed when Elpis destroyed its protective barrier.
In Their Own Story
Six years after the Moonfall incident, a new generation of Vault Hunters arrives on Kairos to find its Vault. The Timekeeper captures them and implants bolt control devices before they are rescued by Arjay of the Crimson Resistance. After Arjay sacrifices himself, the hunters join forces with Claptrap, Rush, Zadra, Levaine, and others to defeat the Timekeeper's lieutenants: Idolator Sol, Callis the Ripper Queen, and Vile Lictor. Along the way, they confront a tormented Arjay, who was turned into an artificial Siren, and eventually kill him before opening the Kairos Vault.
Reader's Guide
To succeed on Kairos, players must navigate a seamless world without loading screens using new traversal tools like grappling hooks. The primary objective is to acquire the command bolts from three lieutenants: Idolator Sol, Vile Lictor, and Callis the Ripper Queen. Players can explore solo or cooperatively with up to three others. Key allies include Zadra, who guides them on how to reprogram the bolts, and Amara, who helps retrieve Lilith from the Phase Dimension.
